How many calories must you burn to lose a pound?

We all count calories. Okay, maybe we don’t count them exactly, but we are aware of them. We know just by looking at them, that some food items are more costly to our figure than others. And we know the impact of the food depends on the calorie content. So even if we don’t tabulate every calorie we consume, we can estimate based on what we ate that day if we’ve overindulged. And then we worry how our excess will impact our weight.

But do you know how many calories it takes to gain one pound? You have to consume 3500 calories to gain one pound of fat. Astounding, isn’t it. You would have to eat sixteen bags of M&M’s to devour that amount of calories. Alternatively, that means you have to burn 3500 calories to lose just one pound. It does tend to make the prospect of weight loss daunting. Now the question remains, what use is this information to you?

To be successful at realizing your weight loss goals, it is important that you are armed with the knowledge necessary to reach them. By knowing the amount of calories you need to burn, you can tailor your exercise program to match your goals. You have to create a calorie deficit to produce results. That means you have to burn more than you take in. The only proven means to achieve this is through exercise.

Don’t starve yourself! If you try to lose weight by crash dieting or something comparable, your body will respond by SLOWING DOWN your metabolism and storing extra calories as fat. This will not help you reach your goals. Instead, you need to burn the calories through exercise. Just make sure to exercise enough throughout the week to burn off the number of calories you want. And this will help you meet your fitness and weight loss goals.
