Do you want to reduce your risk of cancer and heart disease, lower your blood pressure, improve the blood flow to your heart, and lower your risk of an early death?  Who doesn’t, right?!  You can do all of these things just by eating the right foods.  It sounds too easy, but it’s true.  And many of the foods that provide the best health benefits are delicious too.  You could live a longer, healthier, and more fulfilling life just by making certain fresh, unprocessed foods part of your regular diet.

1.     Pomegranate juice has been proven to significantly lower blood pressure levels. This delicious fruit will also improve blood flow to your heart.  Drink at least half a cup a day and you will have supplied your body with 50 percent of your daily required vitamin C.

2.     Pumpkin seeds are tasty and inexpensive.  Pumpkin seeds are an excellent source of magnesium.  And researchers have found that high magnesium levels can reduce your risk of an early death by up to 40%.  So try to consume at least 2.5ozs of pumpkin seeds daily to reach the recommended 420mg of magnesium.

3.     Prunes have more to offer than a guaranteed bathroom break.  Moniker prunes are credited with reducing free radicals that can cause cancer.

4.     Beets are packed with nutrients.  Beets will lower levels of an inflammatory compound in your blood that can cause damage to arteries and ultimately lead to heart disease.  The red pigment in beets provides cancer fighting nutrients.

5.     Guava provides a significant amount of the prostate fighting nutrient lycopine.  And it is a high fiber food.

6.     Cabbage is low in calories and high in nutrients.  Cabbage contains a chemical that helps your body fight free radicals, reducing your risk of cell damage and cancer.

7.     Cinnamon helps control blood sugar and bad cholesterol levels.

It is important to remember that these foods lose many of their nutrients when they are processed.  It is best to buy all foods fresh.  Some foods are even healthier if left uncooked, like beets.  There are many recipes available that are delicious and help preserve the life saving properties that make up these foods.
