Could Yoga be the key to a lean sexy body before summer?
The word ‘Yoga” probably brings to mind images of humming and stretching. Given those images, one might wonder how Yoga could help increase your fitness and lean muscle mass. Although Yoga really is not a form of cardio and is a no impact form of exercise, you may find yourself surprised by the results you will achieve. Yoga is used to integrate and harmonize the mind, body, spirit, and emotions of the individual.
The Yoga most commonly practiced is referred to as Hatha Yoga, which interpreted means, “the union of the opposites”. Hatha Yoga employs a series of poses referred to as Asanas. The poses teach the individual to quiet the mind while focusing on breathing and the form of the movement. The poses force you to concentrate on your form while you perform each. The awareness of the movement and placement of your limbs ensure you receive the maximum benefit from the poses.
Each series of poses is intended to provide a specific benefit. The standing poses are used to increase flexibility, stamina, and strength. The forward bends are meant to calm and nurture the mind and the body. The Breathing and relaxation will renew you energy and mind. The inverted poses will promote circulation and stress reduction. And the seated poses are for reflection and poise and a healthy back.
Everyone can benefit from Yoga. After just one session of six basic poses you will feel the difference yoga can make. Yoga employs and promotes most of the seven elements of health. Yoga is one of the few exercise programs that implements stretching and balance as a primary focus. And Yoga has been found to strengthen your immune system and enhance your overall health. Try Yoga once a week for a month and you may find that you don’t want to stop.
