How to get the maximum benefit from your multivitamin?
Taking a multivitamin every day does not guarantee your body is absorbing all of the nutrients. Companies that manufacture multivitamins make many boastful claims concerning the effectiveness of their product. The containers the multivitamins are packaged in are printed with advertising claims to target specific populations such as women, men, seniors, and active people. But the packaging rarely makes mention of how much of the vitamins your body is actually absorbing.
In order for you to benefit from a multivitamin, your body must be able to absorb the nutrients. There are many factors that could affect your body’s absorption of the vitamins.
· Is the vitamin in a capsule or a tablet form? Tablets are often harder for the body to breakdown. The tablets are tightly condensed and compacted to fit all of the nutrients in a small ingestible package. But sometimes the body has difficulty breaking down the tablet. Whatever parts of the tablet that aren’t broken down, your body does not absorb. · Are the products used to the make the vitamins natural or manmade? Natural ingredients are more readily absorbed by the body. Many of the multivitamin manufacturers use preservatives and other manmade substances as fillers or nutrients in the multivitamin. Read the ingredient list.
· Are the vitamins inactive or active? Inactive forms of the vitamins must be activated by your live for your body to be able to use it. If the liver is unable to convert the vitamin, the nutrient is not used. Most often, the inactive vitamins are not absorbed.
· Who developed the multivitamin? If the multivitamin was developed by a company out to make a profit, the ingredients are probably going to be cheap and manmade. If the multivitamin was developed by an individual that had an interest in creating a vitamin for people to prevent or help with specific health issues, the vitamin will probably have better ingredients.
