After significant periods of inactivity, it can be extremely difficult to find the energy and motivation to begin a fitness regiment again. Add to that a medical condition, and the prospect becomes daunting. You have already overcome the first hurdle though by deciding you want to get fit again. There are many things you can do to prepare your mind and body for the task.
Yoga is an excellent exercise program to help you begin. Yoga employs a combination of stretching, meditation, and resistance strength training to get you in shape. Yoga teaches you to harmonize your mind, body, and spirit in an effort to achieve a higher level of fitness. It is not just for women or people seeking meditation. It really works and will prepare your body for other forms of exercise. Start with a beginners program on DVD. You will learn the poses and experience the benefits of the program.
Since you work at home, you can employ short interval workouts throughout the day. You do not have start with one thirty minute exercise session. You can break it down to three ten minute exercise sessions to start. Take a ten minute walk around your block at a fast pace three times each day. When this starts to become easy, increase your pace and/or lengthen the time. You could increase to two fifteen minute walks. Eventually you can build up to one thirty minute jog.
Starting an exercise program really is difficult if you haven’t exercised in a while or you are out of shape. Try using both suggestions above on alternate days. You will begin to feel the difference in your body after three to four weeks. You may have to really push yourself for the first three weeks to keep going. But after three weeks most people find their bodies have adjusted to exercise and it isn’t as difficult to keep going. Don’t give up on yourself. Getting fit will enhance your quality of life.
