There are nine elements of fitness. It is important to strive to improve your performance in all components to attain an ideal level of fitness. These elements are:
1. Strength: Extent to which muscles can exert force by contracting against resistance.
2. Agility: ability to perform a series of explosive power movements in rapid succession in opposing directions
3. Flexibility: ability to achieve an extended range of motion without being impeded by excess muscle or fat.
4. Cardiovascular Endurance: the heart’s ability to deliver blood to working muscles and their ability to use it.
5. Co-ordination: ability to integrate all the elements of fitness so that effective movements are achieved.
6. Power: the ability to exert maximum muscular contraction instantly in an explosive burst of movement.
7. Balance: ability to control the body’s position while stationary or moving.
8. Local Muscle Endurance: single muscle’s ability to perform sustained work.
9. Strength Endurance: muscle’s ability to perform a maximum contraction repeatedly.
