The Motivation Factor and the photography secret models don’t want you to know!

Finding the motivation to exercise on a regular basis is difficult. It becomes even more difficult when you feel as though exercise will not give you the results you want. You exercise to lose weight and to enhance your body. If the effort you have to exert to exercise will not help you achieve your goal, your ambition plummets. And if you suffer from a poor body image or low self esteem, your motivation evaporates. So instead of exercising and striving to attain your objective, you give up.

The women in the magazines are often blamed for the poor self image suffered by regular women in this country. We look at the women on the pages and compare our alleged shortcomings to their perfection. To make matters worse, the pages do not contain one woman of perfection, but page after page (and magazine after magazine) of perfect women staring back at our flawed bodies. We begin to believe that the number of perfect women portrayed in these forums is an indication of our failures. After all, if that many women can look that good, why can’t we?

The truth is we cannot achieve their level of perfection because it doesn’t exist. It’s true! It’s not that the women aren’t beautiful. Or that they do not have beautiful bodies. But with the advancements in photographic technology, the pictures are not a true portrait of the subject. The individuals developing the photographs use lighting, air brushing, and many other editing capabilities accessible to them to turn beautiful women into flawless masterpieces. Lines are smoothed. Arm flab is painted out. And cellulite is airbrushed away.

The fact of the matter is that no one is perfect. Everyone has flaws and shortcomings. The pictures in the magazine are not a true representation of reality. You wouldn’t compare yourself to a drawing. The photographs you are viewing in those magazines are little more than drawings after all of the editing is done. Don’t use them as a measure of your beauty. Instead, understand that everyone has something about themselves they want to improve. No one is perfect. And when you accept this fact and feel good about yourself, you will feel motivated to exercise. Because the better you feel about yourself, the more you want to do for yourself.
